It’s official – the monkeypox outbreak has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization. The White House has said the same thing about its potential impact on the United States.
There have been upward of 28,000 cases of monkeypox reported worldwide and the USA has had in the region of 6,000. While not as fatal as the similar, now-eradicated smallpox, it has similar symptoms. These can include:
- Muscle, back or headache
- Unexplained rash, that blisters and scabs
- Fever and chills
- Cold or flu-like symptoms
